CrimeReports

CrimeReports

MY RESPONSIBILITY WAS TO ESTABLISH A NATIONWIDE IDENTITY THROUGH ADVERTISEMENTS, EMAILS, AND THE WEB.

I took the lead in designing and marketing websites for both CrimeReports and CommandCenter, and I developed the user interface for the CrimeReports iPhone app. Additionally, I served as the art director, creating a range of materials including invitations, national advertisements, icons, and HTML emails.

The Team

I became part of a team of twelve developers, where I served as the primary resource for all matters related to CSS and layout. We collaborated on concepts, goals, and the limitations of the platforms we were utilizing to find effective solutions. I also assisted my colleagues in refining their implementation of my designs by providing updated code with web tools to address their design implementation challenges.

Strategy

I developed an informative website aimed at educating the public and potential clients –such as police chiefs, on how to streamline their data in real-time. From the ideas and requirements discussed during our daily morning meetings with the development team, I created sketches, wireframes, and mock-ups to guide the design process. UI/UX Design in my earlier years.

Planning

Once I completed the wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and thorough quality assurance, I would hand over the HTML and CSS to the development team. I oversaw the build process and addressed any questions from the developers. During my time away from the site, I focused on generating ideas for our trade show, which involved our clients – police chiefs from all 50 states.

Design and Launch

Once the development team has integrated my design into their build, conducted testing, and completed quality assurance, we proceed with the launch. Prior to this, my team and I prepare campaign emails and national magazine advertisements. The support team for CommandCentral efficiently sets up the database over a secure network connection, ensuring that the setup is handled by the team rather than placing the responsibility solely on the police chief. This support significantly simplifies their workflow.

Currently, Motorola owns this service.

CrimeReports and Command Central Websites

At Public Engines, I contributed design for two flagship products serving both the public and law enforcement.

CrimeReports was built to engage communities by providing interactive crime maps, real-time alerts, and a mobile app experience that empowered citizens to stay informed.

Command Central took it a step further — a data analytics platform for police departments nationwide, enabling them to generate, visualize, and share reports in real time. This innovation became a game changer, helping agencies collaborate more effectively, solve crimes faster, and build stronger community trust.

Impact: Delivered design that supported both community engagement and law enforcement collaboration at scale.

Tradeshow Brochure

An 8" x 8" spiral bound informative brochure that was sent out to all police chiefs in all major cities throughout the states. This would help spark questions when arriving at the trade show to discuss the new product designs

Tradeshow Invitation

To capture attention and spark conversations at a major police chiefs’ trade show, I designed a creative invitation and engagement experience. The invitation was mailed in a realistic evidence bag, instantly aligning with the law enforcement audience. Inside were:

  • Three custom-designed coasters highlighting product benefits and what to expect at the event.

  • A blank key with a tag, encouraging recipients to bring it to our booth and drop it into a large acrylic container for a drawing to win a flat screen TV.

This playful, thematic approach stood out, creating buzz on the trade show floor. The booth saw high traffic and sign-ups, with many chiefs stopping by specifically because of the invitation. In the end, one lucky winner took home the prize — and we gained new customers and subscriptions.

Impact: Elevated brand presence, boosted booth engagement, and generated measurable leads.

CrimeReports App

The CrimeReports app was designed to engage communities and increase transparency between citizens and law enforcement. It provided:

  • Interactive crime maps with easy-to-navigate filters

  • Real-time alerts via email and mobile notifications

  • A mobile app experience that kept residents informed anywhere

The platform not only empowered citizens to stay informed, but also became a valuable tool for real estate agents, who used it to help families identify safer neighborhoods when searching for homes.

Impact: Created an accessible, trusted tool that served both community members and professionals, strengthening public engagement with local law enforcement.
